Dear New Patient,
Welcome to Watauga Orthopaedics. I would like to take this opportunity to tell you more about myself. I was born and raised in Nashville, TN. I am a proud graduate of David Lipscomb University, where I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree and played baseball for the Bisons. From there I earned my medical degree from James H Quillen College of Medicine. After completing a five-year Orthopaedic Surgical Residency at the University of Mississippi, I completed a one-year Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Ohio Center of Orthopaedic Excellence in Columbus, Ohio. I joined Watauga Orthopaedics in July of 2008.
My practice encompasses both General Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine. My particular interest is in Shoulder and Knee reconstructive surgery. This includes arthroscopic repair of Rotator Cuff and labrum injuries in the shoulder, as well as shoulder replacement and resurfacing procedures. I do ligamentous reconstructions and meniscal work in the knee, as well as knee replacements and cartilage work as well. In addition to the Sports Medicine procedures, I enjoy doing a vast number of other General Orthopedic procedures, and Trauma work as well. I have enjoyed taking care of The Tusculum College athletes as well as most of the Sullivan County athletes this year. I really enjoy working with athletes of all levels, from weekend warriors to college and professional players. I guess you could say I am a “Jock-turned-Doc.”
My goal is to strive to treat all of my patients as I would a close friend or family member. I try to use diagrams and models with my patients to help explain problems and injuries that they have. I feel that good listening and communication with my patients is extremely important. In addition, I am a strong believer in utilizing physical therapy for pre and post-operative treatment of all of my patients.
My wife Courtney and I live in the Rock Springs area, and have one boy and girl. I see patients in Kingsport, Johnson City, and Greenville. I enjoy mountain and road biking, golf, college football, and hanging out with my family. We are excited to join the Tri-Cities community, and I hope to provide you with the best and most current Orthopaedic care available.
Sincerely,
J Michael Wells, M.D.
