Watauga Orthopaedics Doctors Travel to Haiti to Help Earthquake Victims

This was the main operating room in Haiti.  Very poor conditions; there were limited supplies and medications available.

On January 12th, 2010, a catastrophic magnitude earthquake devastated Haiti.  In March 2010, Dr. Marc Aiken and Dr. Richard Duncan traveled to Haiti to help the Haitians that so desperately needed orthopaedic medical attention and supplies.  Each physician spent 7 days in Haiti, sleeping in tents on rooftops.   Although the heat, lack of food and deplorable conditions was difficult for them, both said they were happy to provide their services to these patients.  They were able to make a difference in the lives of their patient and Drs. Aiken and Duncan will never forget their experience.   Thank you to Wellmont Health System, Mountain States Health Alliance, Mountain Empire Surgery Center and Synthes for donating medical supplies for their trip.
