In recent years, the practice has developed a reputation for understanding and responding to the unique needs of
the injured worker and the employer. Watauga Orthopaedics places emphasis on access to care, timely and
complete communication, and consistent cost effective treatment plans and protocols for all injured workers.
Watauga Orthopaedics is among a small number of practices in Tennessee that offers the expertise of treating
athletic injuries within the scope of sports medicine. Since 1950, when Dr. Sherrod became a team physician for
East Tennessee State University, Watauga Orthopaedics has added to their sports medicine staff enabling them to
offer services to a wide variety of athletic teams. Watauga Orthopaedics acts as the team physicians for many high
schools in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. Additionally, Watauga Orthopaedics has provided sports
medicine services for the following athletic organizations: East Tennessee State University, Atlanta Falcons, Virginia
Intermont, Milligan College, Johnson City Cardinals, Elizabethton Twins, Bristol Tigers, Kingsport Mets, Johnson City
Silver Bullett's Rugby Team, Masters Water Skiing Tournament, and several professional and Olympic athletes.
Watauga Orthopaedics recently affiliated with Nashville-based OrthoLink Physicians Corporation, a majority
physician owned and crafted musculoskeletal practice management corporation. The affiliation gives Watauga
Orthopaedics the ability to focus on optimizing each patient's care and outcome. The physicians retain their own
identity, autonomy and relationship with their patients but are able to share information and procedures with other
leading orthopaedists in the country, producing the best possible patient outcomes.
