Dr. Steven T. Irmeger is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon who focuses on adult reconstruction, including primary and revision hip and knee replacement and complex lower extremity reconstruction.

Originally from East Tennessee and a graduate of Elizabethton High School, Dr. Irmeger completed both his undergraduate education and medical degree at East Tennessee State University. While at ETSU, he was inducted into the Tennessee Chapter of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.

He went on to complete a five-year orthopedic surgery residency at Mount Carmel Health System in Columbus, Ohio, followed by advanced fellowship training in arthroplasty in Jackson, Mississippi. During his residency, Dr. Irmeger received several honors, including the Orthopedic Resident Teacher of the Year Award, and served as Chief Resident during his final year. He is also an author of a publication in the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma.

Dr. Irmeger’s clinical interests include outpatient total joint replacement, partial and total knee replacement, direct anterior total hip replacement, primary and revision joint replacement, and treatment of lower extremity trauma and fractures. His fellowship training provided additional experience in complex revision joint surgery, manual and robotic-assisted arthroplasty techniques, and certification on multiple robotic surgical systems.

Focused on helping patients achieve the best possible recovery and outcome, Dr. Irmeger uses treatment approaches tailored to each patient’s individual needs. His surgical techniques include the muscle-sparing Direct Anterior (DA) approach for total hip replacement and the Subvastus approach for total knee replacement. He also frequently incorporates kinematic alignment techniques in knee replacement surgery and works closely with patients to personalize their treatment experience.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Irmeger enjoys spending time with his wife, Lydia, and their children. Their family is active in the Redstone Elizabethton Church community and enjoys the outdoor beauty of East Tennessee, especially spending time around Watauga Lake. Returning home to the region is especially meaningful to their family, and Dr. Irmeger looks forward to caring for patients in the community.
